President-Elect Barack Obama
713 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
Dear President-Elect Obama:
Please accept my sincere congratulations on your victory in the Presidential campaign. Once again, America has demonstrated to the world that we are the ‘land of opportunity’ for all of our citizens.
I must be frank and admit I did vote for the other candidate and for the following reasons;
-- I believe ‘life’ is the end-game for all humans, born and unborn, and that all other issues are simply rules of the game;
-- I believe our President must have credible, extensive and verifiable executive and leadership experience;
-- I believe a President should expect self-reliance and accountability from every citizen;
-- I believe that pursuing a policy of larger and more pervasive government is not a solution but rather a means to an end;
-- I believe ‘we are known by the company we keep’, and therefore should not ignore and dismiss anyone’s past associations with questionable or extremist individuals or organizations;
-- I believe ‘redistributing the wealth’ is a fool’s game and serves only to create class warfare among the citizens by the elected class;
-- I believe open and indiscriminate assassination of the character, integrity and honor of a sitting President leaves one fair game for the same treatment;
-- I believe the defense of the First Amendment should be absolute and not conditional, and that any attempt to silence an opposing voice is unpatriotic and has its roots in anarchy;
-- I believe every candidate should be able to point to a person or persons who can testify to the candidate's long-standing embrace and commitment to those values and virtues we all look for in our leaders;
-- I believe our President should believe America’s greatest days are in our future and not in our past.
There is no other choice for me but to respect the Office of the President, and to extend to you my gratitude and appreciation for your willingness to serve this great nation. I will be the first to defend your right to administer and govern according to your values and convictions, and to challenge you when I believe your policies are contrary to our mutual best interests. I truly want to see you succeed and earn the respect equal to or greater than any of your predecessors. I will pray that wisdom, humility and courage will become your greatest virtues and that you will become a wonderful example for every American.
All the very best,
Bill Monroe
