Neil,
It escapes me why labor unions demand forced,
government-mandated union membership other than to maximize revenues without
having to earn them. Unions are private-sector organizations -- shouldn't
they have to compete on their own merits?
Shouldn't they have to put forth compelling
arguments to persuade workers of the value they provide? Capitalism works
because buyers have choices, and they reward the providers who best meet their
needs. Workers have many demands on their disposable incomes and they
must retain the control to decide how best to meet their needs, obligations and
responsibilities.
The argument that non-union workers benefit
from collective bargaining without financial sacrifice is simply an emotional
appeal without substance. Do we really
need a conversation about how some people benefit from the sacrifices of others
while ignoring personal responsibilities?
Mandated union membership is nothing more
than a non-government tax -- Right-to-Work should be mandated throughout our
country.
