Letter to Mayor Cory Booker

September 6, 2012

Honorable Cory A. Booker, Mayor
Newark City Hall
920 Broad Street
Newark, NJ 07102

Dear Mayor Booker:

If paying more taxes is patriotic, then so should making an effort to participate in our democracy and to be a responsible citizen by doing the following:
  • getting government issued identification so we all have trust and confidence in our election process;
  • paying a specified minimum amount of federal income tax so everyone knows your vote wasn’t purchased by the highest bidder;
  • being responsible for your own debts regardless of the prevailing economy;
  • unceasingly search for employment during and after receiving unemployment benefits;
  • abstaining from recreational activities that create a safety or financial burden on your family and the community, and certainly while receiving public assistance;
  • purchasing private health insurance for yourself and your family;
  • giving ten percent of your income to charitable causes;
  • refusing to use food stamps to purchase alcohol, tobacco or any items that do not promote the health and vitality of the family;
  • protecting yourself from causing unintentional pregnancies;
  • accepting financial responsibility for your biological children;
  • completing public-provided education through grade 12;
  • refusing to falsify any application or claim for public assistance;
  • obeying all the enacted laws, rules, and regulations of the land;
  • relocating your residence, if necessary, to gain new employment;
  • refusing to engage in or allow waste, fraud, and abuse of tax dollars.
As an elected official and community leader, you must ask all Americans to be patriotic all of the time -- not just when it suits your purposes or your political agenda.

Sincerely,

Bill Monroe
